Candace Parker is a professional female basketball player currently playing for Los Angeles Sparks in the WNBA. Parker, who plays as a forward has won a WNBA championship in 2016 as well as won two WNBA Most Valuable Player Awards in her career.
Candace Parker was born on April 19, 1986 in St. Louis, Missouri. Her brother Anthony is also a NBA player whilst her other brother Marcus is a doctor. She was fearful as a child to play Basketball as she was worried she might not be able to play in the same level as her father and brother did. However, in the eighth grade she started shifting her focus from soccer to basketball.
She studied at Naperville Central High School during which she won several awards for her school including USA Player of the Year. She was an elite among women players from a very young age and that led her to joining the University of Tennessee where again she was a standout performer winning many awards in the process notably the 2007 SEC Player of the Year.
2008 was a big year for Candace as she was chosen by the Los Angeles Sparks. Her first season was very impressive immediately making a difference in the team. That year she won the title of the 2008 Rookie of the year as well as the MVP. It was clear that she wanted to be at the very top. That same year, she helped the U.S. National Women’s team to win the gold medal at the Summer Olympics.
In the middle of next year, she took maternity leave and missed the first eight games for her team after giving birth to her daughter. 2011 was not the kind of year she would have been expecting as she suffered a knee injury that would mean that she was out for the rest of the season.
She gave birth to her child Lalilaa Nicole Williams with her partner Shelden Williams.
