Born on February 22, 1961 in Arras, France, Novelli left school when he was 14 years old and started working in a bakery. He then became a personal chef to the Rotschild family when he was 20 years old.
Jean moved to Britain in 1983 and moving to United Kingdom was his best decision ever. He worked in hotels and restaurants including the Chewton Glen Hotel and Malster’s Arms restaurant. He earned his first Michelin star as Chef Patron at Gordleton Mill and was awarded the “Best Outstanding Dessert” by food critic Egon Ronay. In 1996, he opened his restaurant “Maison Novelli”.
In 2009, he partnered with Dean Dunham to create “The Dunham Novelli brand” and four years later he launched book titled “Simply Novelli” which focused more on French cuisine.
In-addition to that, he has appeared on several television programs like The Games, Family Fortunes, Chef Acadamy and Master Spud. In 205, he became one of the head chefs in the second series of Hell’s Kitchen with Gary Rhodes. He has also appeared on The X Factor: Battles of the Stars, Britain’s Got More Talent and A Question of Sport.
Throughout his career, he has received several accolades to his name. He is a 5 out of 5AA Rosette and two time Michelin star winner. He was also dubbed as the “Nation’s Favourite French Chef”. IN 2007, he was awarded a Honorary Doctor of Arts from the university of Bedfordshire.
Regarding his personal life, he has been married and divorced twice. He has a daughter named Christina Novelli with his first wife Tina. In 1999, he then married his second wife Anzelle Visser and 6 years later they got divorced in 2005. In November 2007, he got engaged to his girlfriend Michelle Kennedy. With Michelle, he has two son named Jean Frankie and Jacques.
