How did she die?
Van der Zee died after suffering a fatal heart attack on a ski trip. She passed away after falling into a coma following her cardiac arrest while on holiday in Austria with her family. She was in a coma for two weeks after the cardiac arrest the day before her 20th birthday.
Her parents broke the news on Instagram saying: “Our pearl, our everything passed away on Wednesday evening March 6th at 22:47. It is incredibly surreal that our dearly beloved Lotte is not around us anymore. Our hearts are truly broken. We would like to thank you all again for all the support and heartwarming messages.”
Her parents told the local newspaper that she had returned from a night out with friends ‘cheerfully and without health complaints’ the night before the heart attack occurred. They said they went to check her the next morning and realized something wasn’t right. She was then taken to the hospital and was later transferred to an academic hospital in Germany. But she suffered organ failure.
