Born on December 21, 1968 in Los Angeles, California, Marquez started her career with a role as Ana Delgado in 1998 teacher drama series “Stand and Deliver”. In 1992, she appeared in an episode “The Cheever Letters” in Seinfeld portraying the role of secretary to the Cuban Embassy.
Other than that, her popularity due to Stand and Deliver led her to work in movies like Blood In Blood Out and Twenty Bucks. She also appeared in popular television shows like Melrose Place and Malcolm & Eddie.

On August 30, 2018, Vanessa was killed by police during a welfare check at her home in South Pasadena, California. According to several reports, Police were called to her home just before 2 p.m. to perform a welfare check. Upon arrival, Marquez was having seizures and appeared to be suffering from metal issues. After 90 minutes of Medical help, police said that she became very uncooperative and brandished a gun at the officers. The officers opened fire and she was shot in the torso. She later died at the hospital at the age of 49.
