Early Childhood

Jovovich was born Milla Bogdanovna Jovovich in Kiev, Ukrainian Soviet Union, on December 17, 1975. She was born to a Serbian father, Bogic Jovovic and a Russian actress Galina. As early as five years,  Milla’s parents left the Soviet Union for London. They left London few months later, moving to the US (Los Angeles), where they finally settled seven months later. 

Her parents divorced not quite long after they settled in Los Angeles. Her both parents worked as domestic staff movie directors. They did not find success in their different  careers because of language barrier.

Her father ended up in jail and did a five years term, though he was initially sentenced to 20 years for his involvement in a health insurance fraud.

Milla Jovovich attended public schools in Los Angeles but left in seventh grade to focus on modelling at the age of 12. At the age of 19, she became a naturalized US citizen. 

Early Career

Milla was enrolled in acting classes by her mother as early as 10. Her debut professional film was Two Moon Junction in 1988, where she played the role of Samantha Delongpre. Having featured in some Television series like Paradise, Married with Children, and Parker Lewis Can’t Lose, Milla played a lead role as Lilli Hargrave in Return to the Blue Lagoon in 1991. She also featured in Dazed and Confused, a film written, directed and produced by Richard Linklater. 

Career Break and breakthrough

Jovovich took a break from her acting career in 1993 after Dazed and Confused. She marked a remarkable return to acting in 1997 with a lead role in the high grossing Science Fiction action film – The Fifth Element. She co-starred alongside Bruce Willis and Gary Oldman.

This role was followed by a series of other roles in films like He Got the Game alongside Denzel Washington, The Messanger: The Story of Joan of Arc (1991), The Claim (2000), The Million Dollar Hotel (2000), Zoolander (2001) and a lead role in the horror-action film Franchise Resident Evil in 2002 which was based on CAPCOM video game series. 

She appeared as Alice and reprised the role in Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004), Resident Evil: Extinction (2007), Resident Evil: After Life (2010), and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. In 2019, she featured in Paradise Hills as The Duchess, Hellboy as Vivienne Nimue – The Blood Queen, and finally Monster Hunter (2020) as Captain Natalie.

Music Career 

Jovovich began her music career as early as 1988. She was signed to SBK Records and released her first album Divine Comedy in April 1994. The album featured her poetry lyric, which has underlying traditional Ukrainian folk songs a trace to her Ukrainian background. Using her talent as a singer, she has provided soundtracks for some movies like The Million Dollar Hotel, Dummy and Underworld

Her single The Gentlemen Who Fell was featured as a soundtrack for the film The Rules of Attraction. Other singles she released were  Bang your head, It’s your Life, and Electric Sky. Her second album was released in 1998, it was titled The People Tree Sessions

They married on August 22, 2009. Anderson was the writer and director of Resident Evil,  a film Milla featured as the heroine. On February 2, 2020, Milla revealed that they had welcomed third daughter Osian Lark Elliot. 

Milla’s mother annulled her first marriage to the co-star of Shawn Andrews because Milla was 16, and Andrew was 21 at that time. Her second marriage was to Luc Besson, the director of her career breakthrough film The Fifth Element, but they were divorced in 1999. 

Milla has revealed she maintains good relationship with her children notwithstanding the long hours she spends on set with her husband who is also a director. She confessed on Wendy Williams TV Show that they share the same bed with their children. She stated that it helped them in bonding as a family.
