Jovovich was born Milla Bogdanovna Jovovich in Kiev, Ukrainian Soviet Union, on December 17, 1975. She was born to a Serbian father, Bogic Jovovic and a Russian actress Galina. As early as five years, Milla’s parents left the Soviet Union for London. They left London few months later, moving to the US (Los Angeles), where they finally settled seven months later.
Her parents divorced not quite long after they settled in Los Angeles. Her both parents worked as domestic staff movie directors. They did not find success in their different careers because of language barrier.
Her father ended up in jail and did a five years term, though he was initially sentenced to 20 years for his involvement in a health insurance fraud.

Milla was enrolled in acting classes by her mother as early as 10. Her debut professional film was Two Moon Junction in 1988, where she played the role of Samantha Delongpre. Music Career
Jovovich began her music career as early as 1988. She was signed to SBK Records and released her first album Divine Comedy in April 1994. The album featured her poetry lyric, which has underlying traditional Ukrainian folk songs a trace to her Ukrainian background. Using her talent as a singer, she has provided soundtracks for some movies like The Million Dollar Hotel, Dummy and Underworld.
