Nicolas Kim Coppola, better known by his stage name Nicolas Cage, is an actor and filmmaker from the United States. Cage, who is a member of the Coppola family, has won numerous awards, including an Academy Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a Golden Globe Award. Rumble Fish, Racing with the Moon (1984), Peggy Sue Got Married (1986), Raising Arizona (1987), Vampire’s Kiss (1989), Wild at Heart (1990), Honeymoon in Vegas (1992), and Red Rock West (1993) were just a few of Cage’s early films (1993). During this time, he was named one of twelve Promising New Actors of 1984 by John Willis’ Screen World magazine. He earned the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal in Leaving Las Vegas (1995).  

He was nominated for his second Academy Award for his role as Charlie and Donald Kaufman (2002). Following that, he starred in films including The Rock (1996), Con Air (1997), City of Angels (1998), 8mm (1999), Windtalkers (2002), Lord of War (2005), The Wicker Man (2006), Bangkok Dangerous (2008), and Knowing (2009). He also directed the film Sonny (2002), for which he was nominated for the Deauville Film Festival’s Grand Special Prize. Cage is the owner of the Saturn Films production firm, which has produced films such as Shadow of the Vampire (2000) and The Life of David Gale (2003). Cage was placed No. 40 on Empire magazine’s The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time list in October 1997. 

Wife

Cage began dating actress Christina Fulton in 1988, and they had a son, Weston Coppola Cage, together. Weston was a member of two black metal bands and played a helicopter mechanic in his father’s film Lord of War. Cage has two grandkids through Weston, who were born in 2014 and 2016.

Cage has married five times throughout his life. Patricia Arquette, his first wife, was an actress. Cage married Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis Presley, in his second marriage. Cage is an Elvis Presley devotee and based his performance in Wild at Heart on the singer. Presley and Cage married on August 10, 2002, and 107 days later, on November 25, 2002, they filed for divorce. On May 16, 2004, the divorce was finalized. Alice Kim is Cage’s third wife. On July 30, 2004, they married on a private ranch in northern California. On October 3, 2005, she gave birth to their son, Kal-El (named after Superman’s birth name). The couple split up in January 2016, and their divorce was formalized later that year. Cage married Erika Koike in Las Vegas in March 2019, only to have the marriage annulled four days later. Cage was granted a divorce from Koike in June of this year. Cage married for the fifth time on February 16, 2021, to his Japanese fiancĂ©e Riko Shibata, with whom he is expecting his third child.

Nicholas Cage hosted Saturday Night Live on September 26, 1992, and appeared in a Weekend Update segment on February 11, 2012. Jimmy Fallon impersonated him during the “Celebrity Jeopardy!” comedy on March 20, 1999, and Andy Samberg nine times between November 7, 2009 and May 12, 2012, largely during the Weekend Update segment.

Career Journey

Cage has acted in a wide range of films, both popular and unusual, since his cinematic debut in 1982’s Fast Times at Ridgemont High, opposite Judge Reinhold and Sean Penn, and an early starring part in 1983’s Valley Girl, directed by Martha Coolidge. He tried out for the role of Dallas Winston in his uncle’s film The Outsiders, based on S.E. Hinton’s novel, but Matt Dillon won the part. Rumble Fish and Peggy Sue Got Married, both directed by Coppola, featured him. Other films in which Cage appeared include the critically acclaimed 1987 romantic comedy Moonstruck, which also starred Cher; the Coen Brothers’ cult comedy Raising Arizona; David Lynch’s 1990 feature Wild at Heart; and Martin Scorsese’s 1999 New York City paramedic drama Bringing Out the Dead. 

Cage has been nominated for an Academy Award twice, winning the first time for his portrayal of a suicidal alcoholic in Leaving Las Vegas. In Adaptation, he received another nomination for his portrayal of real-life playwright Charlie Kaufman and Kaufman’s fictional twin Donald. Despite these accomplishments, most of his lesser-known films have underperformed in comparison to his major action/adventure roles at the box office. 8mm (1999), a suspense thriller, is regarded a cult classic. For the character of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin in the 2001 film, he learned to play the mandolin from the ground up. Sonny, his directorial debut, was released in 2002. Despite countrywide releases, two of his pictures, Lord of War and The Weather Man, failed to attract a significant audience in 2005.

 At the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, Viktor and Irina Yelchin screened Love, Antosha, a documentary about their son Anton Yelchin. Garret Price directed the film, which features interviews with Anton’s friends and collaborators such as Kristen Stewart, J. J. Abrams, Chris Pine, Jennifer Lawrence, Jodie Foster, John Cho, and Martin Landau. Cage as the film’s narrator, delivering excerpts from Anton’s writings. Cage signed on to play the lead part in Richard Stanley’s Color Out of Space, based on the short story “The Colour Out of Space” by H. P. Lovecraft, in December 2018. This was Stanley’s first feature picture since being fired from Dr. Moreau’s Island (1996). Cage produced and starred in the 2021 film Pig, for which he won critical acclaim. Cage was cast in the Universal Classic Monsters spin-off film Renfield in November 2021. As Dracula, Cage will play a supporting role to Nicholas Hoult’s titular R.M. Renfield. Chris McKay will helm the picture, which will be written by Ryan Ridley and based on an original tale by Robert Kirkman. Along with David Alpert, Bryan Furst, and Sean Furst, McKay and Kirkman will produce the feature picture. The film will be produced by Skybound Entertainment and Universal Pictures as a joint venture. Early in 2022, principal photography began.
