Chip and Joanna Gaines are a couple who are best known as co-stars of the HFTV’s hit show called Fixed Upper. Among other businesses, they own a remodeling and design business called Magnolia Homes where they buy undervalued houses and by designing it create value to other potential buyers. Though they have stopped the show, their businesses are flourishing more than ever.
Early Life
Joanna Gaines was born in Kansas and raised in the Lone Star State. She studied at the Baylor University where she graduated with a degree in communications. Later, she went to intern in a firm in New York which made her clear that her future career was going to be in designing. She soon wanted to start something of her own that sparked her interests and thus decided to open her own shop in 2003 to bring her ideas to life. Today, she is the co-founder and lead designer of Magnolia Homes.
Chip Gaines was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was later raised in Dallas and graduated from Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business where he specialized in Marketing.
Chip has always loved creating businesses and started very young trying many ventures. He developed a local Waco laundry service meant for college students, a fireworks stand as well multiple landscaping companies. While still in college, he flipped his first ever property along with his parents and he has been involved in the business ever since then.
He has learnt more by doing which is one of the reasons for the steadiness of their businesses today being the co-founder and the man looking after the construction of Magnolia Homes.
Career
After buying a business called “Little Shop on Bosque”, they started growing their first ever Magnolia Market. They were learning by doing with the passion to grow their business in their minds. Over time, the businesses starting growing as planned too but they eventually decided that they would close the Market business as they had two children at the time who needed her full attention.
But this looks to have been a great boon as in this time frame the Magnolia Homes brand started to grow. This was the construction business they started which is one of their biggest ones today. It was a perfect match for the couple as Chip looked after Construction whilst Joanna looked after the designing part. With their kids albeit grown up, they started focusing on other Markets again and “Little Shop on Bosque” officially reopened in 2014.
Fixed Upper was a show that began in 2013 that documented the couple’s professional life of designing homes and selling it to customers in a delightful manner. Along with other segments in the series, it was a very big hit that has helped them create a solid fan base and at the same time provide immense exposure to their businesses. However, in 2018, they decided that it was time to say good bye to Fixed Upper and start focusing on their family again.
Chip and Joanna Gaines Net Worth
According to E! News, they have an estimated net worth of $5 million each in 2018. Though Fixed Upper has stooped production, the Gaines family are doing better than ever when it comes to financials. Being a part of Fixed Upper has helped them develop a loyal fan base which in turn has transformed into a loyal customer base because of some smart marketing and business principles.
Among their many businesses, their construction company Magnolia Homes is probably one of the biggest. Then there is the home furnishing and décor store called Magnolia Market, a bakery called Silos Baking Co. , a garden shop called Magnolia Seed & Supply, as well as Magnolia House. That is not all, they also have Magnolia Realty, The Magnolia Journal, and Hearth & Hand line for Target.
Personal Life
Chip and Joanna have their own philosophy on raising their children. Although their parents are famous on television, ironically, there is no place for one in their households. Their kids are growing up without a television set in their homes as they believe that the children should rather experience the outdoors.
Aside from this, they also are very strict when it comes to Technology. They are not allowed to have their own phones until they start college. Chip is apparently the stricter parent whilst Joanna is comparatively loose.
